Coach Conversations: Matt Dixon on Recovery
In this video I discuss the value and importance of recovery for the endurance athlete. This is central to my coaching approach, so much so that many refer to me as 'the recovery coach' - although I don't think my athletes think of me in such terms, as they tend to find my training pretty challenging. Recovery is an easy buzz word to throw around while discussing endurance training, but it is critical to truly frame what proper recovery looks like as a part of a smart training program and realize that it certainly doesn't relate to being lazy or taking shortcuts on the path to excellence.
I hope this brief video helps you frame recovery as a part of your power training approach, instead of a simple afterthought or sign of weakness. The best athletes place equal value in their recovery as they do their huge training sessions that make them feel invincible, and I hope this piece helps you develop a similar lens.
