The Joule GPS+: A Tool for Coaches and Athletes Alike, Part 4

With the release of our P1 pedal cycling power meter, you can now stream live pedal data directly to your Joule GPS+ cycling computer. In this final installation on key metrics for coaches and athletes, we discuss pedal balance metrics.

Pedal Balance Percentage

Now that our P1 Pedals have been released, we have a metric that displays the percentage of total power going to the left pedal and the right pedal. Riders can get a sense of how their pedal balance changes over the course of different types of rides. Most riders have a dominant leg that tends to show itself more during periods of stress or fatigue. Knowing which leg is dominant gives the user a chance to strengthen their less dominant leg, such that there is less of a differential during times of fatigue and stress.

Example
If a rider is currently producing 220w, the Pedal Balance Percent metric might show 45/55 indicating that of the 220w power being shown, 45% is coming from the left pedal, 55% from the right.

Pedal Balance Power

Similar to pedal balance percentage, riders using our P1 Pedal cycling power meter can see data from each pedal rather than the summary used to make up total power. In the case of this metric, the Joule GPS+ will show the user the power coming form each pedal.

Example
If the rider is currently producing 220w, the Pedal Balance Power metric might show 100/120, indicating that 100w is being produced by the left leg and 120w is being produced by the right leg.
